BUT you cut the roll in half, and it makes 2ish pieces of bread, just like you would do with a solid loaf, you still cut it and make 2 pieces.

Perhaps, there's a middle ground. It's not a sandwich till you cut it in half. /thread

A submarine sandwich, also known as a sub, wedge, hoagie, hero, grinder, or one of the many regional naming variations, is a type of sandwich that consists of a long roll of bread split widthwise into two pieces, and filled with a variety of meats, cheeses, vegetables, seasonings, and sauces
By this definition a hot-dog falls under a sub sandwich

My vote is a hot-dog is a sandwich

I say no, it was its own name and you think of one item when you here it.

But this one is much more complicated then the pie and sausage roll. They both pastries and each a branch of that.
Because is a gatsby then a sandwich or a bunny chow? And if the type of bread decide the type, when does a chicken on a roll become burger?
only when its round or can it be a burger even of you use a crusant?

but by the same definition is a dagwood a big ass sandwich or a burger? they both have the same basic components. take it you make a sandwich with vienna sausages does it count as a sandwich or a hotdog because the sausage is the essence of the hotdog. the same can be said by taking a hotdog bun and making a ballony sandwich as what does it count? "I figured it out, why hot dogs come in packages of ten and hot dog buns come in packages of eight. See, the thing is, life doesn't always work out according to plan so be happy with what you've got, because you can always get a hot dog." would a boerewors roll by any other name still taste as awesome
