Probably for the best
If Google got a hold of this as well, we would be living the google life

Amazon seems to be in for the long run with these guys. In their message they state that things will mostly stay the same, but that Amazon is in for support and speeding up towards future goals. As long as they are able to just simply do what they've always done it should simply improve Twitch. But only time will tell.

I was looking forward to live streaming some Paintball action on Twitch with my Google Glass... Guess that's not happening any time soon

They'll be able to interrupt programming with Home shopping adverts.

For Kindle
There is something that is called the Kindle Conflict by the way.
It's about making the decision between books or an (Kindle) e-reader,
based on arguments like the smell and feel of books vs the 1000 books in one, etc...

Related to that is a study where they are finding people are having a harder time remembering what they read when they use an e-reader vs an actual book.
"Even so, evidence from laboratory experiments, polls and consumer reports indicates that modern screens and e-readers fail to adequately recreate certain tactile experiences of reading on paper that many people miss and, more importantly, prevent people from navigating long texts in an intuitive and satisfying way. In turn, such navigational difficulties may subtly inhibit reading comprehension. Compared with paper, screens may also drain more of our mental resources while we are reading and make it a little harder to remember what we read when we are done. A parallel line of research focuses on people's attitudes toward different kinds of media. Whether they realize it or not, many people approach computers and tablets with a state of mind less conducive to learning than the one they bring to paper."
